The ICC is well located, allowing you to see a lot on foot. But there are many other transport options.

Bike Sharing

The City of Sydney has a bike sharing program, providing a convenient way to get around the city. You’ll find plenty of bikes around the ICC. The three major operators are Lime Ario, and Hello Bike.

Public Transport

Payment

You can tap-on, tap-off on all Sydney public transport using a credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. If you’re going to use public transport a lot you can save some money by getting an Opal Card.

Ferries

Sydney has a nice ferry network which, though designed for commuters, are wonderful for tourists. The nearest Ferry wharf is “Pyrmont Bay”, just 650m away. Just a little further away is “Barangaroo” which is larger and busier, a 1.1km walk. A fun ride is to catch the F4 ferry from Pyrmont Bay to Circular Quay. This leisurely 23 minute ride is probably not the fastest way to Circular Quay, but it’s fun, taking you past Luna Park, under the Harbour Bridge, past the Opera House. From Circular Quay you can take any of the F1, F2, F5, F6, F7 or F9 for fun rides eastward. The Manly Ferry (F1) is a great way to enjoy the harbour. From the Manly Ferry wharf it is a short 500m walk down the Manly Corso to the famous Manly Beach. Or you can catch the F2 ferry to the spectacularly located Taronga Zoo.

Light Rail

Sydney has a modest light rail network. The nearest station is “Convention”, which is located just 100m away. You can use this southbound to get to Central Station, and change there for the L2 and L3 lines which northbound will take you to Circular Quay and southbound will take you to the eastern and western ends of the UNSW campus respectively.

You can also walk to “QVB” and catch the L2 and L3 northbound to Circular Quay.

Metro

Sydney recently opened its first Metro line. The nearest station is “Gadigal”, a 1.1km walk from the ICC. From there you can catch the metro to Barangaroo, and under the Harbour to North Sydney.

Trains

Sydney has a fairly extensive suburban rail network. The nearest station is “Town Hall”, 800m away.

There’s also a modest network of regional trains which includes the Blue Mountains Line, which you could use to visit Katoomba and other Blue Mountains towns and sights, and the South Coast Line, which you could use to visit Royal National Park or the South Coast. You’ll need to walk or use the L1 light rail to get to Central Station.

Bus

Sydney has a large bus network. The bus that passes closest to the ICC is the 389, which you can use to catch to Bondi Junction, and from there you can catch the 379 to Bondi Beach. Alternatively, you can catch the Train from Town Hall to Bondi Junction and then bus to Bondi.

Rideshare and Taxies

Uber and DiDi are rideshare companies operating widely in Sydney. There are also a number of cab companies, including 13cabs, Silver, Legion, and Premier. Sydney airport has info on rideshare and cabs from the airport.
